Why is it hard for an incompetent manager to resign willingly?

I don't think that a manager can be termed incompetent if the management have not passed a vote of no confidence on him. I believe it is only the management after having evaluated his performance indicator and falling short then he can be termed as incompetent.

I do not blame an incompetent manager for not wanting to resign although it's mostly for selfish reasons, but didn't the company see him before they promoted or employed him?
This is just the simple truth, no one would want to easily give up a position they are earning from, especially in these time where it is hard to even secure a job even with good grades, so even if they are not good enough for that office, once they find themselves there, they would not want to let go.

Yeah even when they do not really understand what they are doing in a business organisation they still believe within themselves that they are doing the right thing that is why most of them do not resign so easily.

As far as he is getting a good income from that business it will be difficult to resign willingly. The person may also be proud and will not want to believe that he/she is not doing well.

I dont think that will ever be possible for an incompetent manager to resign willing because I believe no manager will accept the fact that he is not capable of doing the job because after resigning it will be very difficult to got another job.

Mangers are being hired by the employer who believed in their abilities. Not necessarily hired on the correct basis, or with an accurate view of their skills.
Hiring a manager who wasn't a good choice for the company was or one who lacks skills needed to manage the company. Having failed as a manager on many occasions makes it very obvious that he lacks the skill set to drive the company forward. His refusal to stay put on the job and not willingly considering resignation is what baffles me.

The difficulty to resign at work is not exclusive to a manager or an incompetent manager in fact everyone would have difficulty to resign from their job because it is quite difficult to get jobs no matter how we feel that there are jobs available.

I don't think anybody will accept the fact that he his incompetent in his own field of study, this will paste or leave a bad image of him to anything company

For it to be hard for an incompetent manager to resign willingly, it maybe that he still want to stay in the work to learn more or has a wrong motives as regards the company.

The reason why most of them do not like to re-sign willingly is because most of them believe that they are actually the best and I it is people's fault that the business is collapsing ,they can never accept their failure even when there is a clear evidence.

It's not an easy task for a manger to accept defeats and accept his resignation willing because it's will definitely affect his career position in the name of inability to run and manage a particular business for that he will not be patronize in the name of managing a company by someone.

Who would want to resign when the money keeps flowing in?
The company's CEO or owner would have to fire the manager in this case.
Companies should always look out for competent, well-experienced managers.

It usually takes a while for anyone to attain the role of a manager so the stress time and energy put in already would surely be a constraining factor for an incompetent manager

No one is willing to accept himself and herself as incompetent. Everyone will consider themselves to be the best. As long as they consider themselves the best, why should they resign?

We all know that stepping down willingly from a position is not an easy task, also the manager may feel that with time he would improve despite the repeated failures. The solution is this - the owner of the business should be able to observe all the failures and incompetence of the manager, whether the manager wishes to resign or not, the business owner should demote him and employ another manager who is experienced and competent for the growth of the organization

An incompetent manager may not know that he/she is an incompetent manager and that's what makes it difficult for them to resign. I feel an incompetent manager may feel he/she is actually competent.

People do not easily accept their shortcomings and incompetence. People always believe that they are the best. Therefore, people do not accept that they are incompetent, thus, they don't resign.

In my country, most people in charge of management positions rarely resign honorably even if they know that they are incompetent or at fault. In a case like that, it is up to the owner of the business to fire such an individual.

It could be pride. An incompetent manager may find it difficult to resign willingly because he/she believes he is competent and sees nothing wrong with his management style. A proud person will never admit to their wrongs or mistakes.
True. Pride too is one of the reason the manager would be considered incompetent. Those sort of people are too stubborn to let go

Most managers are very boastful and they actually don't want to feel embarrassed ,so they would not actually want to resign but continue to run the company in an unconvincing way

I believe there should be some reasons a manager may not want to resign willingly. I think the first is pride. We should not forget that the position may be his or her main or even only source of income. It is hard for someone to willingly leave such a position with such amount of salary.
