Invision Community v5

Not what I was asking. 99% of people will not want to learn HTML just for one thing. There needs to be a way to do it visually for those who are more visually-inclined vs technically-inclined.
Learning how to do a table in HTML is not that hard.

I get that some folks simply have to have a GUI to get by.
From my playing with pages (back years ago) and the "page builder" IN IPS 4.3... you would have had issues with. It was only slightly better than the competitor.
You can always create a demo site with them and play with it. But I'd probably wait until v5 is out.

Thank you Matt for posting this. Cannot wait to see more.

About the header navigation and sidebar navigation, is it also possible to have them both simultaneously active?
You can only enable one at a time. While there’s no technical reason for this decision, we simply couldn’t think of a reason why the navigation would need to be shown twice. :)

Well, preference. I'm sure some would prefer to have them both. But it is a bit unnecessary indeed. The compact header design is a smart move, making the navigation more efficient. I really love how smooth the app is. With so many people accessing websites on mobile devices, it's brilliant to see a renewed focus on mobile. I also like how we are now able to have a slogan in the header. The option to add a website slogan or special announcements is a nice touch for personalization. It's truly fantastic to see all the exciting changes in this pre-alpha version.

Also, dark mode is such a needed feature. So it's awesome that you've built it right into the core of Invision Community 5. Offering users the choice between light, dark, or system-based color schemes is a user-friendly touch.

Invision Community 5 is clearly putting the user experience front and center with accessibility, customization, and a mobile-first approach. I'm super excited (if you weren't able to tell 😅) to get my hands on these features and provide feedback. Keep up the amazing work, and I can't wait to see how it evolves before the official release!

If I'm not mistaking, we'll be able to see all this greatness before the end of 2023? :)

I guess my question is @Ehren and @Matt M how easy will it be for devs to design mods and addons is the coding the same?
That will really depend on the developer and what you are trying to do. In general, Invision Community does not need as many addons and plugins as other platforms as it does a lot out of the box. Some of the most successful communities we manage have no addons at all.

If you want to see what has changed, you're very welcome to read our developer's blog.

The tl;dr version is code overloading is going (theme hooks, code hooks) and we've added extensions and listeners to allow for a lot of flexibility.

It's the same but also not the same as in v4.
It's SOOOOOOOO

Developing applications will be probably the same as in v4, but changing existing flows will change completely.
The proxy class system aka hooks from v4 were we overloaded the whole class was replaced with a proper "Code Listener Architecture", which has so many advantages to the old system.
In 99% of the cases you won't need to care and you won't need to fix your code when we change the underlying code, change templates, remove methods or change parameters, etc..
We've blogged about it here https://invisioncommunity.com/developers/devblog/blog/ic5-introduction-to-listeners-r8/

So cool :) so much more as an open book more so then not needed a custom theme ;)
From what I can see, it's really great and a lot of options possible. It will definitely show who's the more creative ones among us. Also like the part where we can add custom CSS. @Ehren and the rest of the IC team keep on amazing me every time I see an update. :D

Where as XenForo keeps disappointing sadly. I mean, the webhooks with Zapier they are introducing has been a feature on Invision Community for years.

What would you like to see in the footer?
Well the same customization possible. A bit like we have on AJ.

  • Widget Placement: Allow users to place widgets and content blocks in the footer area, similar to how they can customize the header.
  • Footer Layouts: Provide pre-designed footer layouts or templates that users can choose from to quickly and easily structure their footers.
  • Custom HTML/CSS: Grant the ability to add custom HTML and CSS to the footer, enabling more advanced users to implement unique designs and features.
  • Social Media Integration: Integrate options to add social media icons and links directly in the footer, helping websites connect with their audience on various platforms.
  • Footer Menus: Offer the ability to create custom menus in the footer, which can be particularly useful for sites with extensive content.
  • Footer Copyright and Information: Enable easy customization of copyright text, privacy policies, and other legal information often found in the footer.
I believe that implementing these footer customization options would not only add tremendous value to Invision Community v5 but also set it apart from other platforms in terms of design flexibility. It would make the platform even more appealing to a wide range of users, from small communities to larger enterprises.
