Invision Community v5

Ah I see. Wasn’t aware he was on the team for so long. He’s a wonderful designer. So I’m glad that you see the influence from him on v5.

He's completely rewritten the CSS framework for v5. What the video shows is as Daniel said the tip of the iceberg. The foundations underneath have been vastly improved.
What has been released so far is top notch. I’m excited to see more!

So the question on everyone's mind is.. when is the release date? I'm thinking sometime in the next few months if not early next year. and no I am not referring to the "custom CSS" I remember you could edit the CSS in the actual CSS files in the adminCP and if you wanted to put it in the custom CSS you didn't have to look at the page source to find a class or ID

One thing that I would honestly like to see Invision change is their features on their cloud offerings. No pages access at 50/mo?

Maybe instead of removing the pages feature, limit it to 5 pages or something, so people can have a few crucial pages like home, about, and a couple others or so.

I'm guessing early 2024. In fact, they hinted as much over in their own support forums. Basically, with Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years right around the corner, much of the staff will be taking time off and they don't want to shoot themselves in the foot. As soon as they release v5, bug reports and support tickets will probably escalate significantly and they don't want to attempt to deal with that half staffed.

I use "Inspect" instead of View Source. I can then mess with the values and see what would happen in real time. Then if I like what I see, I copy and paste that section into my custom.css file.

Errr.... if that's what's killing you.. get the self-hosted (that works out to the $50 a month you want to target) and you get the full suite of products.... then the next year, instead of paying $50 a month you are only paying about $18 a month equivalent. Of course, you have to come up with that money up-front.

I also noticed something on a new demo install. It seems you can't do multi-column setups on pages, for like comparison tables. Hopefully v5 will do that?

As in. Main content on one column, split section for a table, then back to one column. It seems that people were wanting to do a table since 2016, and it still doesn't have a table function in its editor. lol

There is a lot that I like with what is being shown for IC5. For someone who has a hobbyist site, the current pricing on the self-hosted plan (Classic) works out perfectly.
Is there a particular reason why you prefer self-hosted above their cloud plans?

For me, the pricing for what I use is my main takeaway. I've had a license for my site for a while and not that long ago, converted it to the Community pricing that they are going forward with. I would like to move to the SaaS pipeline in the future but, currently, I can't make that jump due to the features I use and the cost being asked for.

What price would be better for you to reconsider going Cloud?
What do you mean with features you use? Or are you talking about something outside your community?

The features I use for my site are blogs, clubs, and eventually future pages. For this, I would have to move to the Creator or even the Creator Pro plan. Which is much more than what I spend per month on my self-hosted site.

Creator Pro is $149 per month compared to IC at $20, and hosting at $22. I would love to have a revenue stream from community members to help offset the cost and move into the Creator Pro level but as a tiny hobby site. Self-hosted is a good entry point. I know there's the Beginner plan that's only just $10 more but, it would require me to restructure what I have currently. Maybe I might, I don't know but I'm currently working on getting its name out there. Maybe I'm completely off base and that plan might work out for me in the long term, just have to go through what I do currently and figure things out.

Thank you for your insight. ☺️
