💬 Platform Discussion Zetaboards

Dedicated to updates, news, and discussions related to the community software platform like Invision Community, WoltLab, XenForo, and others. This helps us in organizing and centralizing all relevant information in one thread.
Yeah I was more of a lurker than anything. I had the Dharma van from LOST as my avatar. I have fond memories such as Seth Day, the Secret Santa Exchange, and there was a mod (maybe Seth?) who was holding a blank sheet and I remember we had a blast writing stuff on it. Good times...

I remember you I think. I didn’t have much to do with support board until they merged with the Theme Zone, but that pretty much coincided with when I started to spend less and less time on forums.

I’m still friends with a few old faces from the SZ/TZ on Facebook, and was friends with Sith (I think he started Outline?) on Facebook for a time.

It’s funny looking back and thinking how much time we spent talking to random strangers online and forging friendships that in some cases last until today.

You were right that Sith created Outline.

And it is funny - many of us created these friendships and even disappeared and we come back and it’s just like old times.

I always thought Cody started Outline. Did they transfer ownership to him? Or are Cody and Sith the same person?

I believe they started together....

Actually went and looked... Sith was first, registered Feb 2008. Cody joined in March. I'm pretty sure Sith was admin, promoted Cody, and Sith eventually retired... Not too sure the order of events/timeline though.

That's correct, Cody was promoted later on and RyJoe was also promoted at some point. These guys were so talented.

I think it's all coming back to me now. Though I was never majorly active on Outline, I think I did post a majority of my codes there at one point.

I miss Zetaboards. I liked using them until they sold out to Tapatalk and then I quite using them.

I loved the "themes" that they had for Zetaboards.....it was easy to decorate your forum to go with whatever.

Around 2012-2013, I used to run two Zetaboards forums where we used to create and share mods for WWE RAW PC game. They were extremely active. But then life got busy so I couldn't continue running them (I left them with the other admin). Years later I thought of returning but by that time it was too late as Zetaboards was no more there.🥺

I miss Zetaboards and wish they hadn't sold out to Tapatalk. I would probably still be using them if they hadn't.

I for sure would still be using them today, the themes available were incredible and honestly I liked the community a lot! I do appreciate Jcink has a lot of skins recoded from the older days at least!

Kamikaze GFX, 2005-2006:

2005-2006 was my first (and really only) attempt at running a community of my own on InvisionFree/Zetaboards before I became exhausted by the tedium of running a community when I just wanted to have fun with my friends online, make shit, break shit. Many of the people involved with this board would go on afterwards with me to the Skin Zone—you can see Lizzy/Lydia, ArchAngel/Erkengel, Delirium, Seraphim, and many others with names that have been lost to time.

November 2005, red theme: https://web.archive.org/web/20051218143542/http://kamikazegfx.com/ webring at the bottom includes links to other forums in the late 2005 period if you'd like to dive a bit deeper into nostalgia

February 2006, lime green theme: https://web.archive.org/web/20060203152953/http://kamikazegfx.com/

Changed the name from Kamikaze GFX (based) to Numerique Styles (cringe)

March 2006, orange theme: https://web.archive.org/web/20060328184923/http://www.kamikazegfx.com/

April 2006, dark theme: https://web.archive.org/web/20060429172235/s13.invisionfree.com/numeriquestyles

Changed the name again from Numerique Styles (cringe) to Creative Assets (sterile, bland, a sign of its lifelessness)

July 2006, blue and yellow theme: https://web.archive.org/web/20060710154453/http://creativeassets.net/

August 2006, on IPB, the end: https://web.archive.org/web/20060814162018/http://creativeassets.net/

I found an old post from a decade ago with the Zetaboards Theme Zone Staff history:

Request Assistant: February 4th, 2007 - September 26th, 2007
Services Staff: September 26th, 2007 - January 20th, 2009

The next handful of years were on the Skin Zone/Theme Zone before and after the transition between platforms. I remember late nights on IRC among close friends working on some of the earliest themes, talking about music on Last.fm, and shitposting. My closest, most frequent collaborator on the TZ team was Leda. We made Yellow Icon Inspired, X:Gen, and some unreleased Candyland-themed theme together all back in 2007-08.

(Please feel free to convert any of these or use them as a reference for your own themes)

Yellow Icon Inspired:

X-Gen:

We also converted some of the earlier IF skins to ZB together, though I can’t find all of them:

Tricolor Jam Conversion:

Alaudine FMX Conversion:

0.173.02.01 Conversion:

9-29-045 was my own basic, imageless theme imagined as a base for others to learn with as a template or customize as they saw fit. This was explicitly released as an "open source" theme for these purposes--I felt fitting the ethos of a forum platform initially started as a fork from another person's creation and that all themes should be licensed as permissively as possible to "pass it on."

Emoticons by Leda: https://support.zathyus.com/viewtopic.php?p=5042680#p5042680 (in retrospect, this was a gift for my 15th birthday)

The themes that I recall being most impressed by were Helios’ Magicey Revolution:

https://web.archive.org/web/20080711160635/http://magicey.org/ dark hammer and sickle skin

I had a feeling it was you Alex. What a blast through the past. Haven’t checked out everything yet - I’ll continue to do so later today but thanks for posting all those links. And I’m genuinely glad to see you have joined. 😉

@Wolt seraphim lives near me and we have met. He has a daughter. He plays video games and posts memes on Facebook frequently lol. Arkangel reminded me of the one forum I joined and I remember there being a person named Hawk there!

Those themes are definite throwbacks. Going to have to look again when I get on the pc. <3
