That's right @Shigobad , When a manager respects his employees he receives equal treatment. I know of cases where managers are abusive and disrespectful to staff, and the work environment is totally unacceptable.

From my own experience I have discovered a boss should be able to do everything he asks his employees to do. The best way to learn how to be 100% successful in a job is to start at the bottom and work your way up. He needs to be able to look at a position from the point of view of his employees so that he can foresee problems and deal with them fairly.

I once worked in a supermarket where 3 trainee managers were brought in with no experience of retail. I worked on a checkout and they were asking me how to do things because they had no idea. Not one of them lasted very long as they were out of their depth and they all moved on within a few months. Had they started on the checkouts and done various different tasks around the shop they would have learned more quickly.

But there are many cases in which we do not receive the above from our superiors, so I believe that not everyone is prepared to carry out this position. I think that the most important thing to be a good boss or manager is to be able to lead without being over bearing and authoritarian. I think that if you have this quality then you are able to inspire those that are working for you and this will increase their productivity.
