Is people management a needed skill for all managers?

It is very important and imperative for a person called manager to have a skills of how to manage a people in a organization or company. To be a manager is not only on a company output and input Alone but also on a employee under the organization or company.

What could the manager of a company be managing without human? Human management is the core objectives of the managerial roles. As a manager of an organization, you learn to manage the employees and the customers. You should know how to relate to these set of people according to their needs.
I want to believe that people management is the same as human management. If it means the same thing then it is a very important skill to have as a manager. When you have this skill, you will be able to put your staff together.
 
It is somewhat shocking that Managing Directors feel it is only right for Human Resources Persons (HR) to possess people management skills as if they (MD) are not supposed to be well equipped with this particular skill.

What's your take as an individual on this?
The more we learn,the more we gain exposure. I for one won't allow anyone to manage my firm without proper knowledge and certification. Incase of business proposals it is needed not to showoff but to boost performance.
 
It's not a compulsory skill but it's necessary, management of People and staff of a company is very important and is significant in the development of the company in terms of influencing attitude, enthusiasm, drive and spirit of employees.
 
People management is very important for every manager or leader. Everyone in leadership position has to have the skills required to manage people, in order to build a successful team. Managing people is not an easy task. It is easy to manage domestic animals than humans.
 
Yes, people management is a needed skill for manager because some are talented in inter personal skill while others need to go through training on how to relate and interact with customers. Some customers can be toxic but the manager needs to learn how to percify the customer to avoid unnecessary drama
 
You should know how to manage your business effectively and then. You should ensure you have a good eye for financial dealings in the organisation. But then all these are possible if you can control and effectively manage your staffs.
 
The management which comprises of the managing director, the HR, the manager, supervisor and other managerial posts given are to learn each others works to promote flexibility in the company. The notion that it is this person's job so I don't need to learn it is wrong and unprofessional.
 
Is the word people management or relationship management. A good human resources manager must posses interpersonal skills to deal with other employees regarding management duties. A manager must know how to relate with other employees for a healthy working environment

You are correct @Ridorz. Management is not restricted to activities of the organisation alone. It is extended to the employee staff members and how they carry out these activities daily.

People management is highly important not for managers alone but for all employees including those in the customer services department because people management involves acquisition of skills , optimization and improvement of skills to enable the employees to continue to contribute to the growth and speed of the organization at large.
The essence of people management can never be overemphasized. Every business owner, manager, or director must know and always prioritize the values involved in handling people within the organization.

It is very important for a manager to acquire people management skills because you are going to be handling a lot of people with different characters from different backgrounds and with different ways of thinking, if you don't learn how to manage people, you may not be able to coordinate them and their excesses. So I would say it is very important for the manager to also have people management skills asides the human resource management.
 
Yes it is very important for the manager to acquire people management skills because he/she not only managing the organization without the people working there. He/She should know how to relate and control the activities of the people working with in a professional manner.
The greatest aspect of managerial duty is people management. Managers manage people to move the business to the expected level. A manager should know how to manage employees effectively to deliver the best of the capacity, how to manage customers to keep in the business.

In the short courses for management that I had taken there is always the topic of handling the people (under you) which means people management is important in the business.
 
Yes, for manager it is important to have management skills to manage all types of people in business. As a manager you have a lot of duties so dealing with different people demand different tasks, when you have not these skills, you may not face people and get loss in business. So you should have ability to judge people and then treat them according to observation.
 
In fact these days In a company who needs management skill which involves learning the human/labour is the managers themselves. They manage so many workers but yet do not know how to treat these staff. When employers treat their employee s well and most especially paying of salaries on time
 
Customers management and relations is one of the most needed skills when starting or during your business career as people are the pillar of your business. They patronizes you and not you yourself consuming the product. A good customers relationship and management will make you win over your competitor easily.
 
I believe that there are many HR professionals who do not have the necessary skills to deal with workers. Nor do all managers possess it, and it should be a qualification for those positions. It is not easy to deal with employees with different characters, thoughts and actions, so this skill should not be lacking.
