Psst, Jcink is basically IPB 1.3 with some upgrades and some mods added to it.It's crazy to think that there's a forum using IPB 1.3 that's still somewhat active.

I randomly found an IPB 1.2 in the wild this morning. It's crazy to think that there's a forum using IPB 1.3 that's still somewhat active. I suppose they never felt the need to upgrade and probably just did some behind the scenes things to keep it running on modern servers.
Ooh it's a Final Fantasy forum too! I think I visited this forum in the past at some point, crazy to think they're using an even older version of the software!I randomly found an IPB 1.2 in the wild this morning.
Yes, I stumbled across it looking up something for one of the games.Ooh it's a Final Fantasy forum too! I think I visited this forum in the past at some point, crazy to think they're using an even older version of the software!
That's really cool! I know we've got Jcink of course, but it's always cool seeing someone keep old software alive. Do you have a link where we can visit your live installation of the forum?I have IPB 1.3 that can run on modern servers. Done a lot to get it functional and modernizing it because it's my absolute fav software. Lot of memories on it I am looking for some help if anyone's interested.
Thanks and yeah, I've done a bit of work to it the last 3-4 months It's just on my local right now but I'll set it up on a live server soon (prolly like a week) and link it here. Just gotta figure a couple things out firstThat's really cool! I know we've got Jcink of course, but it's always cool seeing someone keep old software alive. It's very non-mobile compliant. There is actually a semi-active forum still running IPB 1.3: https://www.celticradio.net/php/forums/index.php?act=idx
Looks quite mobile friendly to me. Sure it could use some improvements, but everything is pretty accessible and readable. It's very non-mobile compliant.
It's really cool to see the progress you've made so far keep up the awesome work! I'll test it out when I get more time for sure! Was a bit longer than I said! Sorry!
I've always had a passion for forums and specifically 1.3. Back when I was 12/13, I joined a forum running this and soon started messing with it myself. Back then, I didn't know anything, obviously lol. Started seriously getting into it from 2008 to 2011 and started again early this year and have been working on it since. I've learned quite a bit, but not enough haha
I've done a lot of work to get it running in modern environments. Although I want to continue working on it and will to the best of my abilities, but, there's some areas I need help with/can't figure out. I'd like to get some opinions of what you guys think. Like I said, I have a passion for this software because it brings back good memories, and I've always loved the simplicity, design and "aroma" of it.
I don't care that people complained that it was old even back in 2005 and could care less even now. It's my favorite forum software, and it deserves some love!
I'll post a link to it on a live server if anyone wants to check it out and maybe be able to help a bit if interested. Just PM me
I'll be working on a full changlog to post later as its kinda big, but for now I will list some of the major things I've done so far.
1. PHP 7 Compatibility and also InnoDB for main engine
2. https all the way through
3. Full UTF-8 (all code, all files, and Unix line separators)
4. Full attachment system with real thumbnails and attachment management similar
To 2.x both in ucp and acp along with attachment search and MIME Type control.
5. Avatars and profile images are now scaled by GD, resulting in smaller filesize/loading.
6. All links, files and directories are now lowercase.
7. Emoticon Management. Emotions can now be sorted into categories via acp and are customizable by the user to choose what they want in the smilie box.
8. relative dates/time support.
9. robots.txt management within acp (very useful I think).
10. Search engine spiders updated.
11. New cookie options: SameSite, Secure and HttpOnly have been added.
12. Error logs for email.
13. SQL Error reporting via email and log file without revealing sensitive information to the end user on the error page.
14. New user options for disabling redirect screen (can also be globally disabled via acp), displaying age and birthday, Hiding topic posts in full reply, topic Word Filters.
15. Recount and Rebuild statistics like in 2.x have been added. (Rebuild thumbnails, remove unused, forum/topic sync, etc.).
16. Topics now have a full fast reply at the bottom with smilies and upload options (configurable per forum). Usernames can be filtered within a topic along with the ability to ignore users in ucp similar to 2.x.
17. User Profile page has been redone.
18. New page links and page jump for easier use and visibility.
19. Users can add topics to their Favorites.
20. Meta tags can be set within acp but are only global for now. (Standard, OG, Twitter/X, and robots) (I'm currently working on dynamic meta tags.)
21. Some visual enhancements and lots of grammar/typo fixes
