We just released a new forum type "Topics" on the Xenforo platform and are looking for feedback. A demo can be found here;

Select an index, join in or start a new topic. This is an experimental system. We hope it works as expected but there may be bugs. If you find one speak out so it can be addressed.

It is a plugin but its undecided if it will be made available. Suggestions and testers are welcome.

While I personally don't enjoy the Reddit-like layout, I can see others using this for their Xenforo forum to give it more like a reddit feel and I think those who are familiar with Reddit but not a traditional forum will enjoy this.

Both formats have a place. I referred to reddit but they didn't invent that format it was the original and in some respects is far better for shorter more conversational posts. Threaded I like for longer posts. Though I have always hated replies going to the bottom as the flow is gone if someone replies to a earlier post. Hierarchical doesn't have that problem.
