Do some old sites just stick around forever?

A website that adds value to its members would stand the test of time. They are able to maintain a loyal fan base and it translates as ad revenue. These websites maintain their relevance, provide useful information and service to their members. One of my favorite sites is filehippo it provides a good collection of useful software.

These sites such as filehippo are still being updated to this day so it makes sense that they are being renewed on the domain however for old sites that are not in use it is surprising that they are still active.

I sold a site in 2020, the new owner has not published a single new content since then, the new owner also has not monetized the website. The website continues to exist and domain and hosting are renewed every year. A site will be running as long as the owner pays for domain and hosting.

If there is a demand for this and needs, then the site can exist for decades or even forever. There is a saying “Old is better than new” and we can adhere to this advice. After all, in most cases, Old sites are better and more proven than new, modern ones. For example, the Rapidworkers site is based in 2009, Neobux is based in 2008, or Ysense is based in 2007.
