Do some old sites just stick around forever?

These sites such as filehippo are still being updated to this day so it makes sense that they are being renewed on the domain however for old sites that are not in use it is surprising that they are still active.

Often time when these sites keep staying up, they're profiting from something (say sales or ad revenue) or alternatively, they want to relaunch or repackage their old stuff to ensure it's fit for this new era.
The second option is my most likely guess.

Many people uses such sites that stays around for a long to scam people, that's why I don't join old earning site's. I know it sounds some how but this the best for me.

Yes, I have seen many old sites that are still in existence and they have been around for a long time. However, they are inactive and the support no longer responds to queries.

That's true, some platforms are really old but they still pay their members, I have never been part of those kinds of platforms but it will be great if they are still paying a good amount.

May be because admin has no time to handle such a website or dead or the staff get bored from the platform, common reasons are possible, not all old platforms are nowadays like what you say some of them stays active.

Very few sites have been in existence for a long time. One such website is survey savvy and it is still active with active support team till this day. Being active for a long time is commendable.

I believe these websites can remain online indefinitely if they can generate enough revenue to pay for servers and domain renewals.
Even when a website is able to cover its operating costs, it occasionally ceases to exist because the owner has lost interest in maintaining it.
