I am on SSI due to having a disability, so I am not working. I would love to become a published author and have been working on some stories.
If in US... be careful... most states have restrictions on how much you can earn on disability... and it only takes a year in some places of having over that income to require you to get off of it and if your next year you don't "make" that much money, you have to apply as new again.... and with the cut-backs in government services, that can take even longer.
We have a friend that lost their disability (until the appeals were done)... not because they "got a job", but they helped a company owner friend out and that company owner gave her $3000 for helping (a personal check)... and then reported it via their company to IRS (she was a previous employee of the business)... which then triggered an investigation and loss (luckily temporarily) of her SSI benefits.
I've got another IT friend that almost ran into the same issue.... he helped some local businesses out because he was bored and his disability does not allow "lengthy" work periods... but he was able to help here and there... and they kept trying to pay him and he kept returning the checks and refusing them, because he had already been "pranged" once and had to go through the reapplication process.
