Why Is Foreign Products Cheaper Than Made in Nigeria?

To contribute to what everyone has said, I do not think it is true. On the contrary, made in Nigeria products are cheaper than foreign imported products. This is because foreign imported products come from a far distance and took lots of energy and shipping fee to transport it to Nigeria. Therefore affecting the price which in turn is high.

Those countries whose agriculture grown is faster and in large amount they have lots of buyers o their production is helpful for all others but in those countries where production of agriculture is slow so they obviously sell their product on expensive price which is bad that every common man can not buy the eatable things.

It seems so really. When you factor in the cost of production locally, that is labour, feeds, seedling, etc, and also taxes on these products coupled with the high price of substitute products or other products, the reason isn't farfetched.

I have observed that our agricultural products like rice, chicken, turkey, etc or even wears are inexpensive despite transporting them into the country. What could be the reason?
You must understand that not all foreign products are cheaper than those of Nigeria. There are only a few places I know you know that foreign products from there are cheaper than those from Nigeria. And this place is majorly China.

Imports are foreign goods and services bought by citizens, businesses, and the government of another country.1 It doesn't matter what the imports are or how they are sent. They can be shipped, sent by email, or even hand-carried in personal luggage on a plane. If they are produced in a foreign country and sold to domestic residents, they are imports.

Our manual cultivating procedures obstructs abundant harvest yielding combined with our shylock center men who moves this produce to us at an exceptionally over the top cost, on the off chance that you contend it go were they purchase this products and see things for yourself.

I don't think what you have just said is the fact because I'm all what I've been seeing imported goods and services are always expensive compared to the locally produced goods and services I don't know where you get the idea that foreign things are cheaper in Nigeria that local products

this is as a result of the fact that Nigerians as a whole prefer things that are foreign, they like to patronize things imported from other places of the world and when products have more buyers, the price tends to reduce so as to induce more purchases. I think this is the reason Nigerians prefer foreign products to local ones.

It maybe because our level of refining is poor, so we rather sell our resources to those who are capable of refining with some facilities they've got, that what led to producing in bulk quantity. The higher the bulk production the lower the price they tag on each quantity. Unlike nigeria we do not have the facilities to refine our resources, it makes us lack in production of lot of goods we import from overseas.

Some deliberately inflate their price, but some company import their raw materials and this add to the cost of production

Nigerians are known for their high penchant for foreign-made goods in comparison to those produced locally.locally manufactured goods because of their high level of durability make Nigerians to crave for foreign goods.

Cost of sourcing material locally. Labour cost. Inadequate power supply. Monthly settlement of security agents. High costs of logistics. Bad roads. Unfavourable government policies and so on.

Foreign products are more expensive than made in Nigeria products because most people have the misconception that Nigerian products are substandard and inferior to foreign products. This misconceptions is the reason why most people like buying foreign products over Nigerian products

It's not only Nigeria you are experiencing such, here in Ghana same thing happen. The main factor that causes such differences in price is the cost of production. You know Africa here most at times we are always implementing traditional methods of production and because of that final cost for the product is always high and the producers are forced to also increase price a bit.

having them transported to foreign countries doesn't really mean that they should be cheap to be sold in its local country, they might cost even more in that country that it's shipped to, for many reasons, one of them is rarity and hard rules to make it grow

The reason why rice, and so many imported food stuffs are costly in Nigeria is because the government have abandon the agricultural sector of the economy. Nigerian government is only investing in oil, and nobody cares about rice farming, and animal farming.

Well I think some of these products imported are subsidized by the government to allow easy transition into the Nigerian market. I think is not a healthy business environment when prices of goods imported from another country is cheaper than indigenous products that are even better in quality.

You may realise that the larger the output the cheaper the price. Larger productoon allows for distribution of cost. This would not be possible as most companies yield are low or medium size.
Also attributing to this is low or minimal use of technology.
Low cometition also a factor

If you are into any business in this country, you would know that you are paying higher to produce goods which with other countries are cheaper. The cost of production is relatively high compared to the goods imported.

To be honest, it all comes down to quality and the price of raw material.
Sometimes, you need to import stuff to get them at a cheaper price. It's better to plan such stuff to make some profit. Most of the foreign products gets the raw material for a far cheaper price than our own.
