Maybe I will answer this question on my personal capacity and not in business. I used to be so generous that my personal finances are sometimes affected. When there is a friend who needs money I wouldn't hesitate to help financially especially when the problem is about health of maybe even death. When I reached middle age that was the time that I got to be thinking of my retirement. Generosity is good but it has to be controlled somehow.
