Before blogging became popular, dedicated sites for online personal journals and diaries existed which formed the basis of the modern large-scale Blogging.
Justin Hall , a freelance journalist , is considered to be the pioneer of modern blogging. He began to post his day -to- day experiences on his site in 1994 while still working as a student intern.
There are many different types of blogs. The types of text-based blog are:
1.Personal - These are based on personal lives of people.
2.Collaborative - Here, one individual creates a blog and it allows different users to write to maximize the content of the blog.
3.Corporate - Commonly used to advertise for new services, update readers on the status of an ongoing project, as well as discuss the pros and cons of a given product. Information about a company is written in such blogs.
4.Topical - This are written to discuss a certain activity. Topics discussed range from fishing and photography to programming and hardware. Tips, experiences and reviews of equipment are often discussed on such blogs.
5.Spam - Spam blogs, or splogs, are mostly set up automatically by ‘bots’ (computers performing a series of automated functions autonomously), and are intended to promote commercial companies or products. Spam blogs can cause congestions in blog host servers, taking up precious system resources and bandwidth.
Other types of media blogs are :
1.Podcasts - Podcasts are recorded by the creator, in a similar fashion to radio, and placed on web hosts, for others to download as audio files. Listeners download these files and listen to them via their computers or audio players.
2.Videocast or Vlogging - This is a variation of podcasting in which the user records video as opposed to audio.
3.Photologs - In a photolog, a blogger uploads photos onto his blog. The photos are then displayed as albums or slideshows. Professional and amateur photographers find this an avenue to display their work. Photo albums are also becoming common supplements to ordinary blogs.
