Is anyone on Bluesky?

Advertisement Placeholder
The newest social media platform is called Bluesky. Is anyone on it? I am getting an invite to it next week and will set up an account soon after.
I've never heard of it.

What is it supposed to be like?

Is it like a Mastadon type thing? A crypto type social platform?

I think it's similar to Mastodon but I haven't checked it out yet because my invite didn't come through yet. Maybe tomorrow it will. Someone wants me to put a Bluesky button on their website, like you do for Twitter and Facebook, but I don't know how to do that. Any clues?

Yes, I was on the beta sign-up for Bluesky.

For anyone who is interested in having a presence on the open web, I highly recommend Bluesky. For differences between Bluesky and Twitter:

Bluesky does not have an algorithmic “For You” timeline. The main Home feed is chronological, but there are also “Discover,”“Popular With Friends,” and “What’s Hot” feeds. Users can also create their own feeds, which others can follow and pin to their Home page.

Bluesky is not "owned" in the same way as Twitter. There is only one way to use Twitter, and that is through Twitter's official website and apps. You must have an account on those official instances. With Bluesky, there's a bit more openness. The AT Protocol is open source, and you could host your own server and not need Bluesky's server at all.

I'm on it now, under Hiking with Shawn.

I got to admit that I like it. It's like a simpler Twitter, back in the Twitter days before it became X that is.

My hiking audience is definitely present but the blogging/forum/entrepreneur audience really isn't there or at least they're not engaging and active in the top results.

Been using it a lot more as I'm ever so slowly narrowing down my social platforms to post to. Been seeing a lot more growth and interaction on Bluesky, than I have anywhere else.

Figured I'd see if my site name was available... and sure enough it was. So now I have an account there to associate with if XenForo sharing ever gets to supporting it directly.
That may be possible now with 2.3 and some of the new features that I currently do not use/need. But I'm waiting on 2.4.2 to get released before upgrading.
Meanwhile, I will interact manually.

Same here. It’s a lot easier to get traction on Bluesky than Twitter.

The starter packs feature is pretty cool. I also like how you can pin certain feeds to the top of your timeline.
