As long as you don’t end up losing some boxes. 😅

That's the movers' problem ;) My responsibility is to pack everything that's going and to collect the stuff that's not worth properly packing (e.g. kitchen items can just go in a half-height box that I can carry up the street, it's only a 3 block move.

All on foot then 😃

I am hoping for a laptop so that I have more freedom. I don't mind having a desktop but it lacks me having the freedom and with me working from home, it would be nice to have the freedom to be in a different room in the house or even be out in the garden in the shade on a nice day.
What about the brand? What's the brand of the laptop?
I hate packing for a house move. Feels *endless*.
I hear that! My sister only owned a trailer and we had to pack all of her things up in a U-Haul this was one of the bigger-sized U-Hauls and it was packed full of her belongings. (Un)packing is so tedious. Packing boxes all day long is like working in a factory or something.

The brand is ASUS which is one I have never had before but others who have had one say it is a reliable company so I feel safest going that route :)

I hope everyone is having a great Thursday! Almost the weekend, we're nearly there!

Mine is ASUS too, had it for three years now and it runs like new still. Got mine for gaming primarily and it does it’s job well :)

Mine would be for working, gaming, and also live streaming with a capture card and creating videos for YouTube so I am hoping it will last but from what I am hearing, they seem to be the best option to go for :)

I was thinking that was Acer at first, but I've never had ASUS or Acer myself. I've always mostly used HP.

Hey everyone! I missed you all quite a lot! I'm happy to be back home though.
Welcome back! A lot of people missed you too! How was your trip?

Good morning/day all! How is everyone doing?? :)

Thanks!!! It was a good trip, short, I wish I spent more time with my sister... My husband and I are talking about moving closer, but man.... moving out of state sounds a bit scary, and a bit overwhelming lol. The funeral services was good though - got to visit with family, and have some discussions that were important to me.

Good afternoon everyone! I'm ready for Summer to be over with already, and it's only June 17th so it's going to be hot for a while now. :( I'm not a fan of the heat at all. :p At some point soon I'll be hanging out with a work friend and we're going to start a D&D campaign! It's been a while since I've played and I'm looking forward to it. I'm not sure when we plan on getting together to do this yet though.

Good afternoon all. Wish this heat would let up but no signs of it doing so yet. Crazy as usually we get a few days of heat and then a break but this is just continuous.

I hope everyone is having a great weekend! :)
We are at 100F right now. I'm not feeling the heat. The air felt so good in West Virginia.

I'm glad we are also not fans of the heat lol. Ooooh and D&D campaign sounds like fun to me!
How's everyone doing tonight?
Not too bad. Annoyed.... My Dyson straightener broke and handling it today has been a headache.

Interesting article... and honestly I can see the "impacts" of it even in conversations here. I'll be the first to say I'm a 'Boomer... worked my ass off for over 40 years and scrimped and saved for additional retirement funds (and to get the kids through college) in addition to the government one I was provided (government employment... low pay, nice benefits back in the day). Were we going on "long vacations" or eating out every other day (or 2-3 times a day) or stopping off for our 3-10 "custom coffee's"? Nope... we cooked meals at home (and not fancy meals but simple stuff). We sacrificed to get where we are at...
Yes, I could have made a LOT more in the "free world" but I started out my government employment because I wanted to help others as much as possible (law enforcement) but after a shooting I moved into government IT work. With a around a lower 6 digit family retirement budget, we live comfortably... but I realize that many of the younger generations are currently struggling (you can see that by how many 25-35 year olds are still living in their parents households - many not contributing to the overall household budget while they attempt to get ahead). Our house (when it was purchased new for $28K by my wife's parents) is now valued at about 15 times that.... of course, that's over about a 55 year period.
Word of advise... learn to cook (generally cheaper), cut back on those "splurges" that you think you have to have and live as basically as you can. You don't need the latest phone, or game console or any other BS like that. Have an opportunity to buy land cheap...grab it... they aren't making any more of it.
The main concern should be saving and investing for the future. I realize it "makes you feel good" now, but when (or if) you get to your 60's, those game consoles and the other BS won't make up for not having enough to live on (and unluckily, I have several school friends that are finding that out now).

Whoa, let's just stop you right there. I've heard the 'don't need the latest phone' advice, it gets old fast, especially when it's based on fallacy.

https://www.cnbc.com/2021/11/09/how-much-debt-millennials-have-on-average.html - Experian did a study of the debts being serviced by their database of users. If anyone knows how much debt people are in, it's the credit agencies.

Millennials:
Average credit card debt: $4,322
Average student loan debt: $38,877
Average auto loan debt: $19,011
Average personal loan debt: $12,306

Pretty sure you didn't have student loans, but you'd still have had a car. I'm sure you're now going to suggest that people should buy the cheapest clunker they can afford (even though, statistically, this will cost more to run over its lifetime than a brand new car would). Maybe you're going to suggest that people don't need to get a degree in this day and age - well, more and more places want a degree as baseline employment, not even in a necessarily related field, just evidence that you actually can sit and do something for 3-4 years. (You'd be surprised how many entry level jobs want a degree in the related field. And then pay barely-above minimum wage, thus ensuring people don't get to save up to pay off that debt so easily.)

Then of course we need to talk about the fact that the global financial crisis - happened when I was 25, derailed my career, derailed my financial situation and I can honestly say I wouldn't be where I am now if I hadn't had to change my career path to something more sustainable. It was only because I got a hefty severance package that I made it out of there in any shape at all.

Millennials don't do the coffees and takeout thing for the reasons people think they do. They do it because with the world going the way it is, it's not like we have a lot left to look forward to. I'm not expecting to be able to retire before 75, another 35 years from now (and I should add, I have multiple private pensions I've been funding since 2005) assuming we haven't totally screwed up the world and we're all extinct by then.

I just bought a place. It's a two bed apartment with a small garden. Cost me nearly half a million pounds. The mortgage is only £2k a month. Only. But that's what happens when you have two people who both have Experian credit scores in the 990s... we're lucky, we don't have student loans to pay off, we don't drive, and we earn double the national average income, and we had enough to put down a 15% deposit plus all the associated land taxes (not cheap)... we're very atypical for millennials.

No, it's "not based upon fallacy". I know WAY too many that rush to get the latest phone while the one they have will work fine for 2-3 years...so PLEASE don't try to play that song.
That's what Apple, Motorola, Samsung and such bank upon.. the "need" to have the latest and greatest.... and WAY to many of those that can't afford it rush to buy it. I know a few folks that are actually on social services (welfare, etc) that have to "have the latest phone" and also "a new car". Never mind they are living in a trailer house that is 40-50 years old and is in desperate need of work... it's ALL about how they appear to their peers.
Pretty sure you didn't have student loans, but you'd still have had a car.
Actually... for most of my life I purchased cars for cash.. and no, they were NOT "new". All part of the "save for the future" aspect we had for life. And as I said (surprise) we paid cash for the vehicles we used for transport. It ALL has to do with budgeting and cutting back on the "fun stuff". And yes, it sucked... but we looked to our futures.

Millennials don't do the coffees and takeout thing for the reasons people think they do. They do it because with the world going the way it is, it's not like we have a lot left to look forward to.
Bullshit... you see, when I was growing up (and until I really got settled in my career)... I didn't go out to eat or "grab a coffee". If I wanted to drink coffee, I simply made a pot. If I wanted to eat, I simply went to the stove and made me something to eat. And sorry to burst your bubble... but at that time of my life I was averaging 10-12 hours a day for 6 days a week working my normal and extra jobs... so if I was able to do it... surely the "youth" of today could do so. Now if you "want a coffee" you go pay from $3-$15 for one. That upper level will EASILY buy you a pound of coffee that will make WELL more than a simple cup worth.
THAT is one of the issues that apparently you and those of the "younger era" have... they are simply not equipped in many ways to fend for themselves and rely on others to provide product for them at a financial cost. You simply try to excuse the expenditures... you don't "need" those "custom coffees"..... when it comes down to the actual nut-cutting, you (and they) aren't any better than your parents and grandparents that actually put a pot of coffee on to brew and drink. The base level is it's "too much work" to make a few cups of coffee compared to "stopping by and hitting the barista up".
Newsflash.. whenI started working, I was MORE than happy brining in $743 a month clear. To make it clear... that would only be $2346 a month in todays money (USD).
I seriously doubt most today would be happy with only making $28K a year.

happened when I was 25, derailed my career, derailed my financial situation and I can honestly say I wouldn't be where I am now if I hadn't had to change my career path to something more sustainable.
And it happens... that's why one has to really be "careful" in choosing a career... one can choose "quick money" or one can choose "reliable". You see, that's why I specifically commented on my choice to go into government service... it doesn't pay well (here in the US) but generally in the "old days" you got good retirement benefits. You worked on the front end (and usually second jobs to make do) to get to that solid retirement. WAY to many concentrate on "I gotta get high pay now" and forget about what they need in the future.
I just bought a place. It's a two bed apartment with a small garden. Cost me nearly half a million pounds.
And I have a place on over an acre of land that is worth near that (and it's paid for)...and we won't even talk about the 58 acres that we own in the countr that we purchased before retiring (nor the 101 acres we have a pending contract on).
Simple fact of life... land isn't being created any longer... so you buy when you can and as cheap as you can. As with ANY product that has a limited availability.. the price goes up as time goes forward and more people want the "product".

As for education costs... again, bullshit. My son and daughter both got loans for their educations... and they had them paid off in about 8 years after graduating and getting their jobs. You see, they actually chose careers that are stable (accountant and nurse) and didn't have to worry about the BS degrees that most get that won't "support" a good job.
