Has anyone tried Skype lessons for drums? I think this would be really tough to do over Skype. How would you have your drum kit mic'd up? Would it sound okay? I think it would be too hard to see the teacher playing drum beats on the other side of the screen. I would say no to Skype lessons.

I am actually curious. I hadn't even thought of the possibility. I'd imagine it'd require different cameras so you can see better the different parts where the instructor is playing. As for the sound, I'd imagine natural sound picked with the mic for an acoustic and possibly just connecting directly to the computer if they are using a digital kit.

I definitely have friends who have paid for Skype lessons before, but I'd personally doubt that effectiveness of it. Unless you have a number of cameras around the instructor and yourself, I don't feel like you'd have enough camera angles to see everything that is going on.

People who can't read music would benefit - of course. Anyway, even for readers, some things might be tough to convey on paper.
