Shoutbox

Does your forum have a shoutbox add-on? Is it for all members to be used or just staff members where you discuss staff matters? Does it draw activity away from the main forums and topics?

I used to way back when I started my first ever forum have a shout box on my forum, but I found that the shout box took away from the forum itself and the shout box was seeing more activity than the forum. I had to make the decision to take the shout box away to bring activity back to forums and I've never bothered with a shout box again if I am honest. They work with some forums but not all.

I can easily enable the shoutbox for my forum, but I see no use for it on a forum primarily dedicated to offering forum resources. It seems like it’d be more likely to obtain spam than in topics.
