How do you feel about the genre? Some people love it, some hate it, some are in the middle. Anyway, the original name for the genre came from the impression that is was for posers, people who don't deserve to have attention. 
Anyway, though, despite the critics, I think the music world had it coming. I mean, it had gotten very elitist. Where was the hope for someone just wanting to make a small garage band like Buddy Holly did? Why should there be all these intensive requirements to be rocker? Why should rock be called rock when, well, honestly, it's too soft and doesn't sound like rock (generalization)?
