Really... they have had custom user fields for how long now core the to the script?
And the "fantastic" developers at XenForo apparently STILL cannot support the ability to filter or search upon them?
How stupid of a position can that be when you MAJORLY fail to support searching upon one of the strongest features your script offers. I have a a feeling if you asked them, their response would be "Derp". As so far I have seen NO valid response to why they have not offered that abilty.
Are the XF developers really that ignorant? Or are they simply incapable (or refuse to recognize the utility of since it may go against there preferences) of realizing the utility of one of the core features of their script?
I'll leave that to you, the end user (and possible purchase of the script) to decide. It is a sad fact that XenForo sorely fails to utilize some of the stronger functions of their core offerings in data discovery. And it is NOT like it has not been brought to their attention in the past.
I recently found occasion to search based upon a specific custom user field entry (to clarify, a specific camera)... and XenForo simply took a mighty crap upon itself when doing a search based upon that specific custom user field. Even a general search based upon it turned up low quality results, and there was data out there (which I knew since I created it). I guess I should mention that I also paid XenForo for the honor of being able to utilize Enhanced Search via their add-on (at a $60 option that still needed an additional 3rd party add-on to give it what I consider basic offering). And their touted 1st party offering fails so miserably that you need to extend it to make it really useful (but that does seem to be the norm recently with XenForo).
I realize that forum search functions continue to suck salty balls amongst most scripts. But for XenForo to STILL ignore this basic (and powerful) function that their script offers is very telling.. that being that maybe their developers are not as concerned about content discovery as they may proclaim and that in reality they are more concerned on their position as developers and not that of their license holders?
In the long run, content discovery by search functions on your site is a VITAL concern..... and when a script ignores certain core functions that they offer should be concerning. And the fact that XenForo continues (after several years of it being commented on) continues to ignore that function should be a wake-up call.
And yes.. I'm pushing... but since I am not allowed to comment about what I perceive as a core weaknesses on their site (seems to embarrass them when they are called out directly (and heatedly) on their support site.).. I will continue to mention what I perceive as core weaknesses where it is pertinent.
One would think in todays age of the internet, search discovery on a site would be a core need. But it seems that XenForo (and granted , other scripts) continue to fall behind the curve.
