Why Is Foreign Products Cheaper Than Made in Nigeria?

I have observed that our agricultural products like rice, chicken, turkey, etc or even wears are inexpensive despite transporting them into the country. What could be the reason?

On the part of rice, distributors are leveraging on the high price of foreign price to sell there's too high, but for local chicken and turkey,price of feeds is high so automatically the price of those chicken and turkey will also be high. I just think the government is not managing the economy well and we now have massive inflation in the country without salary increase

The marketers are at fault, they are the main reason why the prices of goods to be expensive....foreign food are more cheaper cos some of them are been stored for along time before been sold...and also problems with distribution are affecting the price of food in the country..we also have bad roads and bad government

Manufecturing costs, tax on goods decide price of local products, more tax will make more cost..
Low import duty on foreign products will make foreign products which have low cost production in their country go cheaper.

But If the distributors are doing that, they are killing the economy and making people poorer. We need to eat what we produce. The government needs to do better addressing this.

yeah, but what about agriculture produce? We have everything needed here, good soil, good weather and we make good produce too, I think our government is not been honest.

Agriculture products do not grow for free, they also need work for months and year. Other countries if have agriculture revolution, then this will result in over production that needs to be sold cheap.

I can't answer for the Nigerian market but the similarities to my country are certainly there. Based on my local market, I feel strongly that our local producers are too focused on becoming rich overnight. They have the tendency to overprice their products and don't quite have the concept of brand positioning worked out. As such, they rarely have the support of the locals.

i don’t believe wears made in Nigeria are expensive...a lot of the deaigner wears you see on the streets are made in Nigeria but because the consumers wants the Actual brand name, the producers will have no choice than to duplicate and sell to us at the actual designer price

What I mean is we have a fertile ground to plant whatever we want, it's the government sabotaging it.
There was a time where one main source of revenue was farming cocoa,but the glory days are gone now

I think it is related to investment costs, to obtain the final product. what is spent to raise animals, to make clothes and in the agricultural part, may be more expensive in your country than in foreign countries. That raises the cost of the final product.

What I think is that in agriculture the land should be cleaned up with vitamins, and pests avoided, and all of this involves chemical products, which must be paid for. That increases the cost of the final product

Yeah because there are enough food supply but lack of money and high cost of living makes farmers sell all they have at once so there is more hoarding currently.

To be honest, it all comes down to quality and the price of raw material.

Sometimes, you need to import stuff to get them at a cheaper price. It's better to plan such stuff to make some profit. Most of the foreign products gets the raw material for a far cheaper price than our own.
Well, it wouldn't have the same quality but that can be ignored by many.
Probably, that's why they are cheap.
