Often some paid to post forums are down, allegedly because they are hacked. What is likely to be the motivation of the hackers who are causing the downtime, corrupting the database?

This is simple, in database there is users email then they access to database information for promotional goal and firewall blocks such access so they block the firewall resulting a downtime.

Maybe they want to steal data and sell the data to other party for money, or they might just taking revenge because the site owner is their competitor
