Trying a new software

When you are starting a new forum, would you continue using the software you have already used or would you try something you have not tried yet. In other words, if you were using Xenoforo previously and if you wan t to create another forum would you use the same software that is Xenoforo or would try something different, vBulletin, for example?

I would probably use the same software, but I haven't always in the past. One time I got sick of XenForo, for instance, and I liked this cool theme for MyBB, so I set up a forum for MyBB.

I suppose it's all about boredom.

I tend to try out different software for different sites, it's fun to see the differences between each software and seeing what each offers in real time.

I've tried all the well-known free software. I'd like to also try WoltLab (paid) whenever I can manage the funds.

If I have a spare license for a paid script, I'll use that. But normally I recommend starting out on an open source script that has a conversion path to the paid ones until you see if the niche will gain any traction. If it does, then you can invest in a paid script of your choice.
Sometimes a niche may work better with one script than another. A case point is if your competitors all use a certain script then you may also want to look at using it also to provide a somewhat consistent user interface that your potential users are already comfortable with. My main niche is a classic case. Most of the competitor sites use Invision in some form or other. The users I have gotten from those sites have commented how much different my site is than what they are used to and they do apparently have some difficulty adapting.
If it was not for the 3rd party add-ons that are a primary requirement for my current site I'd probably go ahead and renew the inactive Invision license I currently have and migrate the site over to it to it for that reason alone.
