For duplicates they're asking approximately in account creation order and if you don't get the one you had, you have to pick another.

Seems like the original system was better to me because when people start running into the fact that they cannot use the name they wanted they'll probably start adding random digits at the end anyway, like coryar101.

that there was too much social chit-chat stuff here.

My complaint was there was more "chit chat" than forum administration related stuff..... a hint that maybe more folk could do more actual admin discussions.
And yes, I realize that there is a use for Discord and such for some people... just so happens I'm not one of them as I said.
Same reason as I'm not a fan of a chat function/feature on most sites... you can lose good content in them that can better serve a more permanent discussion format.
