Another use of a list is to bring them to somewhere else and then market to them there. For instance, you could use a social media or email list to get people to get to your forum or blog which would have advertisements.

True. If you have a list, you can do a lot of things for instance you can just take them along with you to your newer community, or you can ask them to do certain tasks for lead generation or product sales, or you can ask them to sign up for your newer projects, etc.
