Do you purge these members after a certain period of time? I do. After 3 months of inactivity and no-posting then I figured that I could use the space for the newer members that are coming in.

This should always be done at regular intervals and I have, when I had community sites, done this. It doesn't look good to see: 5000 members and 1000 posts in the stats bar or something like that. :p

I do after 6 months if I remember, for no other reason apart from to keep the database and forum clean.

I think it is not a bad idea to delete inactive members, although normally I do not do that.

It is up to the individual admin to decide whether to delete inactive members or not.
