Generally speaking, I use free themes on my website. I believe that people do not come to your website to see its beauty, they come for your content. Sop, as long as you have good content, people will come to your website and stay on your website even when your website uses a free theme and does not show any novelty. However, I use paid themes only on online stores or when I am building websites for clients.

I think the only reason to pay for a theme is if you don't have the skills to create one and you want to add a unique touch to your board. If the theme is decent-looking and isn't hard to read the text, has bad color combinations, has a messy layout, etc. then I think a free theme is perfectly acceptable for a forum to use. The content is generally much more important than the theme.

Free themes still get the job done and it's why I'm making use of it. Paid themes are very good because of the better features you will enjoy from using it. With the little knowledge I posses on how to create mine, there's no need to use paid themes.

Hands down pay the little extra fee and get a paid theme. Make sure to not get anything that is subscription based it’s not worth it.

You can also design your custom theme for free if you have enough skills and knowledge. However, it could be a daunting task if you do not have enough knowledge at all. Under such kind of circumstances, you may opt to use free themes offered by your hosting platform. For example, Weebly offers free website themes.

The first and most important thing like you mentioned is having the knowledge on how to design those themes. If you have it, the only which is now left for you is to apply the knowledge and creativity in designing what fit your interest and start working with it.

That's what I believe. Content is king and website owners should focus on building good content that brings traffic and engagement. paid themes and even paid software can remain on the backseat.

Exactly! Paid themes can be secondary because they won't stop your website from becoming successful if you don't want to use them. But when it comes to contents, there's no way your website will smell success without high quality contents.

Yeah, you don't have to pay for something to make it a success. Sometimes success comes from utilizing your brain to the best of its abilities.
That's very true. I once sold a wordpress blog using free theme and free plugins for $2000. I Have even sold online stores built on free ecommerce platform like woocommerce. When you use free services, you will minimize your running costs, so that you can focus on profits.

When the knowledge is there on now to best put in free tech tools into good use and bring out a great finished products in the end that's going to worth something decent in terms of money. Even though you're going to put in work on it but it's definitely worth whatever you get to sell them in the end.

I am someone who will only go for a paid theme if it is something I know I will stick to and I know I can afford to make that purchase.

I feel free themes are just as good as paid themes though and there are a lot of free themes that you could use that also look professional as well.

While I do agree that premium themes come with a lot of features, your visitors do not come to your site to see whether you are using free themes or paid themes, whether you are using paid software or free software. What ultimately matters is the content on your website.
