Minimalist drum set up

This might sound like a dumb question but I am completely new when it comes to drums. What is the minimal amount of things you think a set requires to be considered drum set?

I imagine depending on the genre of music you like to play this also might change so feel free to tell us different setups for them or what you think could be a good general one.

Not sure, but many jazz setups have two toms - instead of three.

What would be your ideal set up?

One bass drum, one snare, three toms, one hi hat, one ride.

I guess the drum set would depend on the genre of music. For rock genre I don't see a need for the big drum (sorry, I don't know how it is called) and the cymbals are important aside from the smaller drums. There's also the set of drumsticks that are used again depending on the genre.
