Knowing about your partner past in a relationship, Yes or No?

Do you feel it's important for both partners to let the cat out of the bags on what happened in their past as well as relationship wise? I raise this discussion at work with my friends but we have divided opinions on the subject. I would like to hear other's input on this to know where you stand on it.

I think it's okay to know as much about your partner as you can. As long as they've learned from their past mistakes I don't see the harm in it.
