I am always sad that XF doesn't have a built in way for ignoring when a given board or topic has had updates - e.g. ignoring an entire board that is of no interest, or ignoring a specific topic you don't care to see keep coming back in the what's new page.

It's a shame in particular because while it's a bit clunky to use, SMF has both of these - you can ignore individual boards or even individual topics and I personally am quite thankful for both of these things.

I'm speaking more generally, I really think XF should have this built-in at this point. I'm less bothered specifically here - there are other XF sites I am a member of where this is more pressing (but xf.com isn't going to install it)

I could see this being an interesting, useful feature. Say if there's a political forum and you care nothing about politics, you could simply block the forum so you don't have to view it or its contents. Or, if there's a specific topic on subject that grinds your gears and you want nothing to do with it, just simply block it. I don't think it's a 100% necessary feature to have for forum software, but a useful one for the most part.

It's not even about being interesting, it's a feature other platforms have had since before XF's origination and now more than ever where people want to curate what's interesting to them, I can't see how it still hasn't made it in.

In my case, I use this on simplemachines.org to filter out all the dozens of non-English support boards, and some of the more noisier (and irrelevant) boards. I could see folks using it on sites to ignore the "forum games" type boards if they're not interested, just as an example I've certainly had over the years.

I haven't really seen it on a forum before, but that does seem like a good feature for those possibly more broader forums for sure! The example of political forum - I wouldn't want any notifications lol. I'm not sure if I would purchase this though as an owner, depends on the price. Wish it would just be embedded for those who do want it.

What I find amusing is that SMF has had the ability to ignore boards for at least 15 years (2006's 1.1 definitely had it, I don't remember if 1.0 had it) and got the ability to ignore individual threads sometime in the mess of its 2.1 (2011->2022) dev journey, and yet it's not everywhere else in the forum world.
