I had never heard of anyone saying it like that. I am sure that how they started but now it's the "kitchen sink" in what it does.

I would summarize it more like a billing software with built in customer support platform (tickets and knowledge base).

Though because of their ridiculous practices according to myself and many other providers alternatives are on the rise. Which are mainly Clientexec and Blesta. Myself I personally appreciate the freedom and workmanship of Blesta. But sadly many are not using it due to "out of the box" limitations which I can understand.

WHMCS is a billing panel platform used by website hosts to manage clients and services. Extremely popular in the industry and personally my favorite.

You can use it to sell other services as well. I've used it for my design/integration service for many years.
