I saw this question on several forums without a proper answer when I checked for it. Anyway I got the answer and thought of sharing it here.
XenForo does offer an API through which we can check the validity of a license. You just have to go to this URL:
http://xenforo.com/api/
and enter the information which you get from the seller who sells the XenForo license.
You need to enter the domain name on which the software is being used as well as the secret token which the seller will be able to generate using the customer portal at Xenforo.com
If the license is valid, it will show that.
I have attached a Screenshot with this post which shows the details of a valid license check.
