How to get a better snare sound?

I have a 14x5.5 PDP Concept Maple Snare and I just put on fresh heads and wires (Evans Coated G2/Hazy 300 & Puresound Blasters) I've tuned it up and it's not a terrible sound, I don't completely hate it but it's just too dry & abrasive like it almost makes me cringe to hear the snare without headphones or ear plugs, there's a little ring when hit in the center but a lot especially when I rimshot. Anything I can do to help that?
