How free are people?

Karl Marx probably said this, and I heard this repeated on a forum. Basically, it was saying people are only as free as the paycheck. Well, that's actually true, but I don't agree with Communism, though. Anyway, it's a more complex matter. In fact, despite people being limited by money, it doesn't mean they can't be happy.

Well this is very relative, although we are free in many ways at the same time we are not free in many others, today freedom of expression for example hardly exists, everything is reprehensible, on the other hand we are constantly monitored on the internet, and money is another tool of control.

"Man is born free and everywhere he is in chains"
Jean-Jacques Rousseau
I do not have to describe the quote form Geneva-born political philosopher, it is self explanatory.

Money isn't the sole guaranteed factor for freedom, rather, it contributes in some cases and may not be considered at all in others. As for freedom, this is every man's right. That doesn't mean, it can't be withheld for some value and legal reasons.
Most of the time we are not so free because we want to act within the laws of society, and these laws restrict freedom in one way or another, money is another tool of control, in fact central banks print money at will, the money that we all use, and we have no control over it, depreciating our money and acting against our will, that is another way of losing freedom, there are many ways in which we are not free nowadays, but there are still many others in which yes, if you want to be fully free, you can only leave society, in fact there are more wild areas in the world than areas that live in society, so if you want to be fully free you can go there, but maybe your life will be 100 times harder.
