Seriously, it's very important for any business to be on the lookout for ways to cut cost by all means and paying too much on shop rent is definitely not a good idea.

My advice for your mum is to find a better location for her shop. It's bad enough that they keep increasing the rent, they also don't carry out renovations. The best thing for her is to leave that place.

Yeah that's the problem , starting from the beginning is the real problem there , because the business would be having issues getting more customers again I think

Before you start your shop, you need to sign a contract with your landlord that include renting terms clearly. If you have a written contract, your landlord cannot just come to you asking for rent increment.

Most of the agreement do include the increment in the terms and conditions when the tenant takes over the property. In my country, the rent of houses increase each and every year and this is also included in the agreement, as directed by the government.

If she insists on staying at the same location, then the business owner has no choice but to bear the increase and factor it into the price of the service or product. If that is the case, her customers may soon find the prices beyond their reach and they will certainly look for options and stop patronizing her shop. Before it reaches that level, she should start looking for a location with cheaper rent to enable her to maintain the price of her products. She may also try to negotiate with the owner to reduce the rent. Her decision will depend mostly on how well the business is doing in the current location.

The first thing you can do if you find your rent skyrocketing is to try to negotiate a better deal. Consider the request for an increase as the first step in a negotiation, and make a counter-offer instead of agreeing right away. Make the case for why you feel it's in the landlord's best interest to keep you in their building for less money. The longer you've been there, assuming you've been an ideal tenant, the more leverage you may have.

Increase rent is one of the unforeseen circumstances that could expect while building a business. So it is very important to pray for it before it occur. the best thing is to set aside a particular fund from the daily business as for the unforeseen circumstances.

There's increment in almost every price of the commodities in the market presently and that's why most of the shop owners too keep increasing the price of the rent and most time it has not been easy on business owner .

There is absolutely nothing you can do when there is such an increase in rent. It is his land and he can charge any fee for rent. If your mom is not making money that is enough handle the rent, then looking elsewhere for a new shop is good.

Seriously shop increment affect the performance of most business most especially those kind of business which are not very strong this lead to over expenditure on things that are not productive or can not generate income to the business. It may lead to the collapse of the business.

The only way you can cope with shop rent agreement is to increase your product like added more product into the shop different here in Nigeria we sell different things in the shop the enable you cope with the shop rent you cannot deal with one item in the shop and then you think you can make it
If you're not really having an increased sales when it comes to how you're running your business it is definitely going to be very difficult for you to cope with the shop increment.

My mother manage a small business in a shop for like 20 years now. Every year since 2013 the landlord of the shop has always been increasing the rent without carrying out any renovation on the shopping complex where my mother has her shop.

There was a time the roof of the shop was damaged by wind, the landlord refused to repair it. We had once considered changing her shop but the fear of losing her customers made her not to do so. How can she cope with the yearly shop increment?
It's not really easy, you may be doing our business and planning your life, next thing, boom!! Shop rent increment. As a business person, you should have knowledge of this before it even occurs, anything can happen in a business

I think your mum needs to confront the landlord of the shop about the yearly increments, also she can leave if she feels the rents are not justified. There are going to be customers anywhere else, she could just tell the customers her new location.
The two of the matter is that is not only the shop rent that gets increased all the time but also house rent as well which means that you have to increase your means of making money in order for you to be able to cope.

Some landlord are very wicked especially with business owners, the business can manage in the increase of rent if they make massive sales and have a lot customers around it's environment apart from that I don't think one will be able to manage

The best and obvious solution here is that, you people should relocate the shop location to another place so that she will be able to enjoy her business without so much opposition and interference.

Sometimes you will regret that you did not rent at this time or relocate at this time as price of location and relocation are increasing day after day increasily.

Everyone knows that the economy of the country is not at a good situation right now and prices of products are always increasing. Whenever there is a change to rent I usually try to impact it in my products by reducing the quality.
