We are living in a polluted system instead of living in a democratic era we are now living in the era of corruption.
Democracy by definition is government of the people,by the people and for the people. This definition by application does not hold water.
The definition of what is obtainable is the government of the corrupt government by the government and for the government.

Corruption is like cancer that spread very fast and has eaten deep into the system of many nations. Corruption has made government to make policy that affect the growth of new businesses. Most often, before you get some contracts, if you refused to bribe, you cannot get it.

That is so true. Corrupt people are making life difficult for people who are honest in their dealings. It takes a lot of discipline to take your stands and not bow to their pressure.

Many underdeveloped countries are suffering because their leaders are too corrupt. They steal money meant for developing the country to save in banks abroad and also to send their children to expensive schools while their Citizens suffer due to lack of infrastructural development and swift policies that would provide an enabling environment for businesses to thrive.
With This, less businesses succeed and then the economy doesn't improve, thus making life difficult.
How else does corruption affects a nation's economy?
Corruption lives and was born in 3rd world countries. Sadly , my country is no exception. It will be very difficult to stop corruption, the only way it can be reduced is to make public offices less attractive.and monies released for the day to day running of the country should be explained and accounted for by the public office holders openly.if not managed well, then capital punishment will be executed.

Corruption has its own effect on every nation's economy. Corruption is when the government are unfaithful and mismanaged public funds. In a situation whereby the money meant to be used for the development of the state his being embezzled by an individual it will surely affect the country's economy

Thanks for bringing this brilliant question, corruption can bring down the economy of a nation cause the budgets that will be used to carry out some task or for the development of country will be squandered by those in power which can lead to recession in the country.

corruption could also affect the economy in terms of creating a better standard of living for the citizens, and also to provide jobs for them. Because the money ment to create this jobs are being kept by the government for their own selfish reasons hence foreign investors would also find it hard to invest in such countries

No doubt, corruption affect the national economy of any country because when there will be corruption then there will be a little recovery of taxes and it will hit directly the GDP of the countries and with this economy will affect. With this Smuggling is also a great effect on the economy of the country.

The primary reason most countries are not developing or not developed is because of corruption. Corruption, is bedeviling many countries, it is so pathetic to see our leaders laundering money meant for development of our country.
Corruption affects countries in so many ways, it stunts the economy, it kills meritocracy and many of them.

Corruption is one of the biggest disease in the world today, that has take over the minds of greedy people, corruption is cause by greed, and it really affects our economy so bad, a corrupt country has a slow economy.

corruption affects a country’s economy, one possible avenue is through transaction costs. We understand from the work of the American economic historian Douglass North that legal and regulatory stability, or a lack of it, affects a country’s economic performance. It affects the ability of business to efficiently and effectively calculate the cost of transactions.

North argued that the development of rule of law institutions, for example, is what enabled economic development in the UK. Business innovators could work in an environment where the cost of business can be reliably calculated and legally maintained. But this has not meant that countries such as the UK are free of corruption. They are merely corrupt in a way that does not overtly hamper economic productivity.

The specific type of erratic but institutionalised corruption that affects Nigeria is reflected in the country’s position at 170 on the World Bank’s Ease of Doing Business Rankings. In 2014, the Bank assessed that 78.3% of firms would likely have had to engage in making informal paymentsto public officials.

Indices such as these are questionable given the possibly dubious measurements involved in producing them. Nevertheless, this type of hard-to calculate corruption practised in countries like Nigeria likely affects economic growth. The fact that both domestic and international businesses cannot accurately calculate the cost of doing business in Nigeria makes them jittery at the best of times. Investors and business people put a premium on stability, credibility and predictability.

But that is not the same as saying that Nigeria is any more corrupt than any other country and that such corruption is the cause of its poor economic development.

To further draw a distinction between different types of corruption, it is worth looking at the case of the Asian tigers. Their remarkable economic growth up until the early 1990s is still being lauded. In countries like Japan, Singapore, South Korea and Taiwan, corruption was rife throughout their political and economic systems, as well as between big business and government.

The difference between corruption in Asian economies and that found in Nigeria is the former was a more organized form of corruption. It is possible that the only difference between the kind of corruption in these Asian economies and that found in Nigeria is that the former was a more organised form of corruption. Investors could credibly predict when, at what stage, and to whom, bribes were to be paid. In other words, corruption could be calculated, thus stabilising the transaction costs of doing business.

The kind of corruption that takes place in countries like Nigeria is perhaps comparable to the patrimonial corrupt practices that were prevalent in feudal Europe and the wars that built its states. Historical examination tells of a people not significantly different in behaviour from their modern day Nigerian counterparts. As Charles Tilly, the American sociologist and political scientist notes, the European experience represents “one of our largest examples of organised crime”.

While corruption in itself may not be the sole and simplistic cause of poor economic development, there is value in the moral repugnance that it elicits among the masses. It is their livelihoods that are being pocketed by those who neither care for, nor respect, the public from whom they steal.

Concerning how corruption affects the economy of a nation. Well, I believe when corruption set-in, it affects every aspect and sector in the economy not only in under developed countries but also in developed countries especially. In my country corruption has taking over every sector here, there is no form of security, killings here and there, there is no job without an individual been connected to the managers or head officers of the department in an organization, and so many more, they are actually countless over here
