How can we avoid Redundancy in organization?

Redundancy is a situation when the employer no longer requires the job an employee does, it arises when the employer-
* No longer has a requirement for the work an employee was was employed to carry out.
* Has ceased to carry on the business in which the employee was employed or.
* He ceased to carry on business at the place at which the employee was employed.
Now having known all these about redundancy in business, how do you think a business can avoid a situation of redundancy? What are the things a company can put in place to mitigate against redundancy in the organization?
Most times when this happens , it suggests that the business is heading towards a fall and at such , the employee should willing accept it and move on , however the employer should endeavor to do it in a professional way ,such that the employee will not be sent out just like that.

For redundancy to be reduced. The employer has to set many things in place such as making a plan and standard of the type of employee he wants. This will enable him to employ people he require for the post he employed them for

Mitigating redundancy is hard but I think that if you have a job that you think that you will only need a couple people for and you don't see this happening again in the future then the best may be to employ people on a contract for that job only so there are no expectations that are created, or what you can do is you can hire a consulting firm to help you out. In this case you do not have employees whose skills become unsalable to the company.
When an employer no longer need the services of the employee redundancy tends to take place.

To avoid this the company need to stop further employment of external workers.
They need to train and retrain workers. Etc

Sometimes, it is not the employers choice to axe those employees. It might happen based on the company's run out of cash (bankruptcy) then amendment is needed to curtail their spending spree. In order to successfully run the company to enable cash flow and settle other staff payments and other most valuable employees in the company, redundancy have to take place.

Generally an employer cannot avoid making aredundancy payment if the redeployment requires the employee to accept a lower level or lower paid job. On the other hand, redeployment is not necessarily unreasonable simply because the employee has to relocate to be able to continue working in the new position offered.

In the tough times, you will need to halt all external recruitment for new roles apart from key roles that can’t be covered internally.

Employers should be cognizant of the fact that recruitment freezes may put a strain on current employees and cause their performance and engagement levels to wane. This is why it is important do all you can to boost staff morale, for example, give praise for good work, have one to one meetings, recognise those employees with long service and celebrate team successes.

To prevent your company from having such cases, it is best you define your service and rules of your company from the beginning, even before employing those who would work with you. And ensure that all your workers go for frequent workshop to equipped them for the job available.

Companies go through this phase once in a while and there is nothing wrong with that. What is important is to improve your inputs at the company to a stage that the boss won't have any reason to lay you off. This is done by improving how to interact with both the other staff and the external environment.

Exactly. I don't like a situation where people are laid off from their current jobs.
In order to avoid losing out workers company has to plan ahead of time in order to avoid redundancy.

Redundancy shows a poorly planned framework or bad management in the organisation. I think to avoid it there should be division of labour and specialization. Any worker that has low work rate or is no serious should be cut off.

Yes you are right. Laying off people or employing them on a full time basis and then removing the worker when there is no need for their position is definitely not a good thing as well, and it will damage the reputation of the business, making less and less people likely to apply for a position in that firm as well.

Yes it will destroy the good name of that company. Good name as they use to say is better than sacrifice. Employing worker's and sacking at will is an act of wickedness.
We need to plan ahead of time to make our businesses begin to boom instead of poor management.

I think the best way to reduce redundancy is to recruit only the best workers to perform a particular task. Having workers being Jack of all trades could cause redundancy, every staff must have a specific role to perform in the organization.

Exactly this implies that there should be specialization in the workplace.
By encouraging specialisation everybody will begin to work exceedingly great in order to promote the company.
This is another way we can curb the problem of sacking workers in the workplace.

Something or someone is redundant when they are not needed or are surplus to requirements. Companies go through a process of redundancy when they are laying people off.firms usually have to pay employees a lump sum based on their length of service and salary if they are made redundant.

Take steps to eliminate voluntary overtime
Eliminating voluntary overtime is a simple way to reduce costs. However, HR must communicate with the workforce to ensure all employees know why overtime needs to be eliminated, as it may not please your employees if they have come to count on it as a regular part of their salary.
Recruitment freeze
In tough times it is necessary to work with the resources that you have in order to keep new costs down. This may mean taking advantage of natural wastage, not replacing exiting employees, reallocating workloads, and reshuffling workers in order to control headcount.

If you want to reduce redundancy on the business, you will need to fire up the human resource department of your company up like that. You should held them up to look for a way to make the worker to increase the output this the working time. Inform them that there would be a good incentive for them if they are able to achieve this within short period of time.
