Hand fatigue

As I've gotten older, it's been getting harder to hold my sticks. My hands get sore, and the sticks fall out as my grip weakens.

I've been advised to put sticky stuff on the sticks to make them stay in my hand with less grip, but I've been thinking I might drill a hole in the base of the stick and put a cord in it, so they stay in my hand.

Has anybody else had to solve this problem, and what did you resort to?

My best friend when it comes to helping my hands when they get worn or cramped is those little hand squeezers that you can find almost anywhere. Sometimes it can hurt a little bit, but usually that is kind of a good sign for me and I can do a little pain if it means some much needed relief in a little while, which is usually what happens.

I've also experienced hand fatigue whenever I play the drums for a long period of time. Basically, it's just normal for our hands to get sore and feel pain especially if we grip the sticks too tight or we hold the sticks the wrong way. I don't do anything whenever I feel this pain, I usually just stop playing for a while to let my hands rest and it will ease the pain.

Hand fatigue is a normal experience especially if you have been on the drum for a considerable time. One way to manage this hand fatigue is to always go for breaks at worked out intervals. Hand fatigue seems to be a bigger problem with older drummers, I think this related to inadequate blood circulation.

Playing any instrument for a long period of time can lead to your hands or whatever part of your body your using to become tired, that's just natural. While there probably is little tricks that you can try to stop it happening, taking an adequate amount of breaks is the only real way to stop it, and as we all get older, them breaks we need will become more and more frequent unfortunately.

Unfortunately, there is no permanent solution to this one. Rest is the key though. Rest between playing or stick the sticks with glue.

Stringing the sticks may be not easy or comfortable but you may try.

I think doing a few wrist and fingers excersises before having a session can help. Also if you haven't done it in a while it is important not to overload yourself, it is better to take more breaks in between to stretch than trying to do it all in one go without being as used to it anymore.

I agree with the posters above regarding not overworking the hand once it starts aching and not risking it even if the pain recedes, it is best to rest it until the next day.

As @Kaynil pointed out, I think the best way to deal with hand fatigue is by doing some wrist and hand exercises/stretches before you get going. If you have properly prepared your body for the work, then I don't think soreness will be as much of an issue.

Its normal, because we holding sticks for so long. Only solution is to take rest. Don;t practice when you feel pain.
