So everyone knows about Google adwords and other ad companies out there, however does anyone here actually use Twitter and Facebook ads?

I honestly do not know anyone that has ever used these for their website or forum, usually it's all for apps and games, or at least that's all I see, especially on Facebook. :p

I have in the past looked into using Facebook ads but knowing how much I would have to put into it for my ads to show and then hoping that I got hits from that it wasn't a gamble I was willing to make and I find that I get hits and views to my site and in some cases new members just by posting on the page I have for my site and using popular hashtags. I guess if you are a big business and have the money to put into ads on social media it's one way of getting a little more exposure but for someone like me ads probably wouldn't be worth my while.

Social Media ads are generally a waste of money and time.

Exactly. The average conversion rate when using PPC ads is .33%. Most of the time, they don't even get up to that percentage. And who is going to click on a social media ad? People are there to socialize, post status updates or post memes. They don't want ads. They don't want to click on ads. They don't want to sign up for products.
