Joining a newly launched forum means that you're going to among the lead members who kick starts everything that happans in the community in terms of discussion. A of a people find it difficult to play that role for new forum which is why they prefer joining an already established forum with lots of contents for easy engagement in discussions.

Which one do you prefer?

I frequently join old forums as well as new forums. However, I am more interested in joining new forums. That's because content creation is easy on new forums as the forum is not saturated yet. However, when I join new forums, I usually join for incentives. I join old forum,s for various purposes such as promotion and marketing, and selling products and services.

You are right about how easy it is when it comes to creating content on new forms because there is so many topics that you can easily create that have not already been created unlike what you experience when you are taking part in an old forum. This is because most of the content you really want to add must have been added by another person.

While joining a newly launched forum may require more effort to kick-start discussions and engage with other members, it also presents unique opportunities. As one of the early members, you have the chance to shape the community's culture, set the tone for discussions, and establish yourself as a prominent contributor. This can lead to increased visibility and influence within the forum.

This is one of the reason why I enjoy joining a new community that is just launched because it is going to give you more visibility online whenever your username is seen on any other platform because of the popular to have created on forums that are launched in newly where you helped to lay the Foundation of the community.

I don't like to join new forums right away, as they tend to have nothing going on. But a forum that's been around a bit, with some content already posted, is where I usually go. Because if it's a forum with no activity yet, why would I want to join right away?

Personally I don't really have any problem joining a new forum with no content on it at all as long as it is a forum niche I have enough knowledge to help and start the foundation of content creation on the platform, so that any other person who joined will have something to get on with.
