You don't need a lot to start as a few dollars can get you a good place but things like eggs demand a very cold weather for them to be produced in large size. Another challenge is harmful predators. Snakes, dogs etc can lose a huge threat to poultry farm. As long as you do it the right way, poultry farming is a lucrative business

This is a big challenge aside the sanitation, adverse effects and lack of proper information. Many poultry farmers jump into the business without proper market sure survey every environment has a carrying capacity, the moment it exceed there will be excessive supply which will fall the price.

The business gets frustrating when sickness invades your Poultry, this single act can make you spend all your money and run into debt trying to treat your chickens. To avoid sickness I do prefer one rear local chicken, there are more disease resistant than any other breed of chickens. You can give that a try.

This is another great point. The most successful poultry farmer I know of is always taking care of his birds. This makes it difficult for him to have some spare time for himself. Those who have money resort to hiring people who would take care of the poultry farm
