Career in graphics?

I've always been interested in art, started drawing at a young age. I could draw so well back then I could draw Goku off of Dragonball Z PERFECTLY then color him in. Now it's mostly photoshop but I think with my background in art (all throughout school the art teachers complimented me and all that fun stuff) it makes me have a step over some designers? I dunno. That and I've spent a lot of hours plugged into the damn program. :p

I was terrible at Art in school, although I always get compliments on the sketches I make in my other exercise books. That sort of artistic thinking translates brilliantly over to Photoshop, mainly because you have so many new tools and things to experiment with.

You hit the nail on the head, having a background in art makes photoshop both a blast and a bit easier.

Nowadays I think the right path is to have a general knowledge of the graphic techniques. You should be familiar with all the current software that is being used, and also animation techniques.
Sites are becoming more and more dynamic, so you should be prepared to provide clean, but complex graphics that can accommodate all types of scripts/sites.

Why not? Designers are paid really good, even in my country. But if you want to make this for a living, you need to ace this domain.
