There is a thin line that separates white hat SEO with black hat SEO, for example, if you are doing guest posting to build backlinks, that can be also considered black had by some people because what you are doing is paying someone to publish your article with backlink.

The term white and black hat is reserved to hackers and hackers only , there are up front methods in SEO and behind the back ones ,I won't dive deep into this matter right now but what you stated is a regular regulation break case and not that serious of a matter to be declared as black or unethical ( trying to up the score artificially which is unlikely to work)
