Article Submission Sites are vital way to get massive traffic and a very good way for link building.
I provide some of the best article directories with its page rank in 2013:

  • eHow (PR7)
  • Squidoo(PR7)
  • HubPages(PR6)
  • GoArticles(PR6)
  • EzineArticles(PR6)
  • ArticleBiz(PR4)

I'm a bit confused about article directories. What exactly are they? Also, do you have to submit unique articles?

I don't think all of these are simply article directories. Some of these are websites like blogger/wordpress.com etc.
You can submit your unique and informative articles to these websites and get an awesome backlink to your website along with a good traffic. Well the traffic to your site would be good only if your article is good enough.

These sites do have a lot of following so your article wouldn't be a waste. Another advantage is, you can earn for the clicks you get on the advertisements shown along with your article, not all the above mentioned sites supports it though!

Submitting articles to article directories can be a great way to get traffic in your site.

You can also get high quality backlinks.
