It depends on the type and how big the company is. In some companies, both sales and marketing departments are classified together but in big companies it is different, the marketing department is in charge of devising methods and strategies to educate and enable the public be aware of the goods or service the company is seeking or offering l while the sales department is in charge of the selling of this goods rendering this services.

I think sales items has not tagged cards but marketings sales have their own tag cards means they have label of their company marketing besides they don't have so this is the difference from my perspective .
But mostly working is same but their major task is to promote their selling items and products

There is a general consensus that sales is that department in a company that is in charge of boosting the sales of a company while marketing is also a department that is meant to improve the sales of a business.
Knowing these two, are there difference between them or they mean the same thing?
I think that there is a difference. In my opinion sales is more about human interaction and how well you can sell something, but on the other hand the marketing can refer to advertisement and developing strategies that allow the sales reps to make the sales or stuff that they can use to their advantage in their sales pitch to a customer. so they are very similar but i think that this is the main difference between them.

Yes! There is a different between sales department and marketing departments, but in some organization it is been fused together because It performs almost the same functions for an organization. The sales department helps to sale the companys products by marketing the products, while marketing department also advertise and market the products for sales.

Sales and marketing department are closely interwoven, they are almost into similar thing and aim, but in some bigger organization their functions and roles are clearly separated. Marketing are into advertising while sales deliver to customers

Yes, there's a huge difference between sales and marketing. sales is commodity exchange for money or act of selling something. Marketing is the business of promoting and selling products or services.

The marketing department is solely responsible for making the company's products and services known to the public by all means of exposure and advertising.

Then the sales department takes the duty of actually selling the product and services to the potential customers when they come to buy.

Having read through the thread I realized many can't tell what the difference is, hence, I will try to do justice to that in a comprehensive way. The primary role of the marketing department is to create awareness for your product and services in the market through various medium including social media, radio and TV. While the sales department primary role is to convert prospective customers who get to hear about the products and services through marketing but need to ask questions about the product/services, delivery, pricing, and all objections that hinder them from ordering the product will be dealt with by the sales department. I hope it helps broaden our understanding. Thanks for reading.

There is a huge difference between sales and marketing departments. Marketing departments deals with promotion of goods and services.
Sales department focuses on executing sales, based on the marketing. Some organizations merge them together though

It depends on if you really have to differentiate these two departments because most times they work together and you can easily refer to them as one since they both do each other's jobs without any issues whatsoever.

These are two different departments of any organization . They deal in different ways. Marketing department give awareness about the product of the company and sales department is responsible for buyer's order and delivery of the stock. But it depends on the size of company. So many companies merge the two departments.

Both are in a similar department, functions are similar as well, sales involves exchange of goods for money while marketing involves advertising, a marketer can handle sales aspect as well, therefore can fall in same department.

They have an interwoven function where they operate together. Their functions are alike even in their disparity. I've only seen in large corporation where sales are sub sets of the marketing department.
I also think they are used interchangebly and its only a matter of semantics

It's all really dependent on the size of the company. Some companies have separate sales and marketing departments, while others combine them. But when it really comes down to it, sales and marketing are two distinct disciplines. In my previous job as a customer service manager for a small ISP, they were totally separate but we all worked hand in hand with customer service focusing on customer care and retention, sales mainly on acquisition and marketing on coming up with various types of promotional material to entice potential customers.

Sales and marketing are two business functions within an organization – they both impact lead generation and revenue. There is not a big gap between sales and marketing, but there is difference between sales and marketing. Every company hires both sales and marketing professionals. Marketing includes increasing the awareness about your product and services with the intention of growing business. S

This depends mainly on the size of the organization. Big companies some times separates the sales department from the marketing department just to reduce the work load of the superior of the marketing department since the workers are many.
You are right. Some big companies I know have a separate Marketing department and Sales department. The marketing department handles the promotion of the business and their focus is in getting prospective customers. The sales department is centered on the sales which means they handle the customers on the orders and the follow up. For new products or service it is still the marketing department that promotes it to the customers. Generally there is no difference in most companies that I know.

Yeah, there is difference between sales department and marketing department because the sales department are in charge of selling the product to the customers while the marketing department are the one that control the activities of how the product reach the customers

There is a difference between sales and marketing in any organization. The sales department are the ones that deals with handling and selling of goods. After a product have been ordered they make sure the product is sold immediately while a marketing department are the ones that makes provision on how to give the product the maximum awareness it deserves through advertisement
