Would you step down as owner and work as staff, after selling your forum?

Forum management is a big work especially when your community is a big one. A small community would be a little bit easy to manage compared to a bigger community. Also, it's going to take more resources to run a big community. If you find yourself in a situation where you can't maintain the ownership of your forum and end up selling it, would you be open to still sticking back to work as a staff in the forum?

Well, if I had a really successful forum, then I may not be willing to sell my forum in the first place. This is because running a successful forum is a dream of many people. There are many great forums such as RIF, Bizdustry, etc that have gained a lots of traffic and members. Having said that, I do wish to create such kind of successful forums.

I think I'd stick around the forum. I'd probably request at least to have a special title, like former owner or some fun creative name. I wouldn't want to be a mod or admin though, I'd rather just be another member with a special little tittle.

I would actually say that it's all about being able to keep managing the forum and not have it cave in because of your tight schedule. Talking about RIF, do you know it was Devin who started with from the scratch with my assistance? We pushed it to the point where he couldn't manage it again before selling it to the new owner Jordan hehe.

It's a good business you have carried out like this. I would do the same thing too and I get why the new owner decided to retain your services. You knew everything on how the system work. It will be very easy to bring him(the new owner) up to speed with you still being around to help out.

Normally, when I sell a site, I offer free website management for at least one month. I also offer free marketing for one month. Some website owners are so impressed with my service that they hire me for other jobs as well. I once sold a website for $500 and the owner hired me to write articles for the site for $200.

It's an impressive way to promote yourself and your services. There none of your clients who purchased a website from you and got free website management and free marketing for one month that wouldn't be happy. They will quickly recommend your services to anyone.
