Would a better forum view help?

I was reading about a suggestion posted on XF about changing the forum view to breathe new life back into forums. It used large splash thumbnails

Do you think this would attract more users?

I think it reminds me more of a blog, but I can see it catching the attention of readers much better. Was this taken from a forum or a blog? I'm guessing it's from a forum, either way I really do like this layout!
