With the large amount of new forums that pop up every minute of every day, there is some bias against newer sites and people just don't seem to (or want to) take them seriously just because they're new.

With that in mind, how large does a forum have to be before you'll take it seriously and start getting involved?

With me it's not the matter of size, it's the matter of quality. If I see that the owner and other staff members are serious about the forum and are doing their best to improve the user's experience on their forum, then I take it seriously and I contribute as much as I can.

Seeing you here says you see quality in WebGuruBB

I always took forums seriously. I was always hoping to make money off it somehow :) and right now I am! Haha. More members+more posts = good statistics.

For myself, if it isn't a general chat board, it is when the forum has a wealth of knowledge and some (for want of a better word) experts sharing what they know.

I take a forum seriously only if I see lots of active members and great contents. A forum is defined by two elements - 1) community, 2) content.

I don't believe myself that it is about how big the forum is in regards to posts and members but more the interest the staff have in the forum and if they seem serious with the amount of new and fresh content going up each day. Usually if I see a forum that is really trying by keeping new content coming in and doing a lot of advertising I know they are serious and I am quite happy to join and become an active member.

I start to take them seriously when they have been live for a few months and know what they are talking about.
