The main reason I buy an existing domain is based on the traffic generated, the longevity and the quality content on the domain.

The only reason I see why someone or a business would want to buy an existing domain is because if it's traffic in the sense that the visitors already aware of that site.

Because to some people buying this particular existing domain name, creating a similar name to this very name won't cut it for them, they just have to get this very name that is already existing.

Well everyone always have their own reasons that they purchase a website. One can purchase to increase traffic, to redirect traffic or to hold and resell for a higher price later.

Domain is just the name of the website. Some people register a domain and not use it maybe the aim is to sell the domain name. So what is the big deal of a domain name that it can be sold for a higher price? Why do some people buy an existing domain when they can think of a similar name for their planned website?

I think that if you are buying one that already exists then i think that it could be because there is a much lower price on this and that is based on the budget that you have at that given point in time for your website development.
