What is good about SMF?

I used SMF along time ago, but at the time I knew little about web development, not even enough to put on a new theme. :smirk: Anyway, though, I see that it has an ad and point theme and it is loaded with many others, but I think there could be some things it still needs. For instance, does it need a shoutbox?
